Claire's Critters has taken in a wide variety of animals over the years. Here are a few stories of various animals that have been saved at Claire's Critters.

Please note that some stories contain images and descriptions of injuries and may be slightly graphic.

Oliver, the Tuxedo Cat

Oliver was believed to have been abandoned at Claire's Critters overnight several months ago. He showed up at the property in the backyard, scared and alone. He ended up hiding under a nearby trailer for days until he ended up trusting Claire enough to eat some tasty cat food. He was named Oliver after his namesake in Oliver Twist since he was orphaned and hungry. Oliver ended up becoming quite charming and Claire was originally going to adopt him out since there are already 6 cats at Claire's Critters. However, Oliver came home with an abcess under his eye one night that needed vet and home care. Claire fell in love with Oliver's wonderful and friendly demeanor while caring for him and ended up choosing to adopt him. Buttercup the Affenpinscher dog loves to spend time with him and they have become fast friends. Welcome Oliver!

Dino the Sulcata Tortoise

Dino (Dee-no) was found on a driveway in a neighborhood after escaping from his tank. He was brought into Claire's Critters after he needed a home. Claire decided to take him in due to the fact he is still a youngling and has a ways to grow. He is on a homemade diet with supplements to help his growth and to maintain a strong shell. Dino is doing well and is happy to have a permanent home.

Pippin the Wild Tanager

Pippin is a Western Wild Tanager that was brought to Claire's Critters by a concerned Tonopah resident after she found him hopping along the road. Initial diagnosis didn't show any obvious issues but Pippin was brought in to recover for a few weeks to regain his strength. Tanagers are a migratory bird so Pippin cannot go free unless he is a strong flyer. Pippin was given a flying test after several weeks, but he failed and could not get over 5 feet off the ground. Because of this, he is now a permanent resident of the rescue. He loves fresh wax worms and enjoys his large cage with a beautiful desert view.
